navy pier.

I love Chicago. {sigh}

more importantly I love my husband.
and Quinn loves her daddy.
and we have missed him these last few days.

Todd has been working a 5 day volleyball tournament down at Navy Pier, and Quinn and I have been without him.  For as busy as Todd can be sometimes, he is home every single day.  So 5 days, it's a big deal.  Especially when that stretch includes Father's Day.

So...
Quinn and I hopped in the truck and headed downtown to see Daddy for a special Father's Day.

When we arrived, Daddy was in his last game.

As soon as he was done, we met some of his officiating friends, who just wanted to eat up our little adorable munchkin. :)
Then we headed outside onto the beautiful Navy Pier.
Boat became a new word, and she was pointing them out left and right.
Made me realize that we don't talk about boats too often, which is why these little trips and experiences are so important.

We had dinner with daddy and gave him lots of love and attention.

Then we took a stroll admiring our gorgeous city and all the fun things it has to offer.
We spent the rest of the evening watching this little girl have so much fun doing this....

Navy Pier 2013 .

It was a beautiful night.

Hope everyone had a special Father's Day.

dear dada, love quinn.

Dear Dada,

You are the best dada in the whole wide world.
Sometimes I call you Daddy, but most of the time lately it's been Dada.
I think that makes the most sense to me since I call mom Mama.

I am so proud to call you my Dada.
You come home every day so excited to see me, it makes me feel so good.
I am so excited to see you too, and I look forward to seeing you come home every day.
It is the biggest smile I get all day and I love running to the door.

You work so hard for me and mommy.
And even when you come home, we know you are always thinking about making us happy first.
We know that you are thinking of us in everything you do.
Thank you for everything you do, and thank you for working so hard so mommy can stay home with me.

I may not have been a big fan of going to the games and all the loud noise this past volleyball season, but I loved watching you coach.
I was so proud of you when you got your trophy.
I LOVE to watch the Journey to State video, and I spend a lot of time looking at the program.
I like to point to the boys pictures when mommy says their names.
I point to your picture the most. :)

You are such a good daddy.

You take me to fun places.

Because of you, I get to be part of some amazing memories.

You throw me really high.
(look at those calves on daddy....alright really that's mama talking ;))

You make everything fun.

You know how much I love the park.

You teach me about loving the outdoors and all the simple things.

I love when you give me kisses, even though your beard is scratchy sometimes.

You snuggle with me every chance you get.

I love our time together.

I know you and mommy are still learning too, and that you are not perfect.
But you are pretty perfect to me.
Thank you for loving me unconditionally.

You are such a good daddy.
I love you dada.
Happy Father's Day.

journey to state. (with video)

The last three weeks have been nothing short of amazing.
The varsity boys volleyball team that Todd coaches wrapped up their season with a remarkable 32-7 record.
The last three weeks were a culmination of a great season.

There is a reason why our house looks like this.

blue and white are regular colors around here.

With 3 tournament championships, a Conference Championship, a Regionals Championship, a Sectional Championship, reaching the Final Four in State, and ending the season in a victory for 3rd place in State.... amazing.

In writing this, I am making an effort not to be too wordy, because I could go on and on about this season, this special group of boys, and this coach.

This team was so deserving.  I am so glad that this journey happened with this team.
An incredible group of good kids.  Always kind, great sportsmanship, supported each other and incredibly dedicated.  It is a team that did not have one or two star players carrying the bunch, it was a group of good athletes who worked tirelessly and learned how to work hard together.
They are the group you want to see win.  The good kids who work so hard for what they want, what they believe in.  It made this whole ride even more fun to watch and more emotional of a journey.

And this coach...
words can not describe how proud I am of him.  He is so deserving of this.
Todd is the coach who puts his whole heart into the team.  He is up late at night and early in the morning working on anything he can for these kids.  He is a coach who loves the game and a win is always great, but helping these kids to become respectable athletes, demonstrating good sportsmanship and to work hard in school is even better.
He is so good at what he does.
And he truly loves these guys.

For a girl who grew up the daughter of a coach and going to state championships all the time, this journey to the state finals was especially meaningful.  We as a family are so lucky to be a part of this, each and every season.  I am so excited for Quinn to grow up in an environment surrounded by these moments, and the possibility for these moments.
When I got to the state tournament, it sunk in when I grabbed a program.
I would spend hours going through those when my Dad used to take us to volleyball state finals.  Picking the teams I wanted, checking out all the stats, seeing who looked the nicest.
And when I saw this page, I had a moment where time just stopped during this exciting whirlwind, and it sunk in.
This was incredible.  We were here.

I made a short video (about 3 1/2 minutes), and it is worth the watch.
Uplifting, motivating, and emotional.
sorry for the shaky camera at some points, the camera lady may have been jumping, cheering and crying all at the same time ;)

Turn up the volume and Enjoy!

Journey to State2013

It makes me cry when I watch it.
They played this music from Remember the Titans when the team won, so it only seemed fitting to use it on this video.

When Quinn watched it for the first time, she cried (not toddler cry) like eyes welling up and just a few little tears cry. (and then this made me cry again)  Oh my goodness, so wasn't expecting that, it was an amazing little moment.
There is no doubt whose child this is. :)

We are so so proud of Daddy.
And so proud of our boys.

This group of boys did not want this journey to end.
After the match, we headed out with the team to dinner.
They carried their trophy so proudly and were so happy.
Afterwards, getting off the bus back at school,
they all stopped and just stared at Todd until finally one of them said,
"What's next, coach?"
They simply didn't want it to be over.  (There are 12 seniors on this team.)
I think this was the moment where it all sunk in for Todd.
It was just the sweetest moment.

Such an amazing season, we all didn't want it to end.

The last three weeks have been one amazing ride.

We are still soaking it all in and enjoying the blissful aftermath.

Much more to come on our journey to State.
